Who is behind "Maneki Neko World"? โ€” An introduction to the story behind this site and the person running it.

About the Operator

Hi there. My name is Kotaro Omaneki, and I run Maneki Neko World.

I've always had an interest in feng shui and good fortune, and it was when I started incorporating maneki neko into my home decor that I found myself drawn into their fascinating depth. "What does this color mean?" "What's the difference between a raised right paw and a raised left paw?" "Where's the best place to put one?" โ€” one question led to another, and before I knew it, I was deep in folklore texts and feng shui references.

Maneki neko are more than just cute figurines โ€” they are good-luck charms that have carried the prayers of ordinary people since the Edo period. The more I learned about their cultural background, the more I felt they deserved to be appreciated as something far greater than mere decorative items. This site was born from a genuine desire to share that depth with others.

I'm not an academic specialist, but I approach each topic carefully from three angles: folklore, feng shui, and practical information. My guiding principle is to present well-grounded information in a way that's easy to understand โ€” and to avoid simply repeating myths or unverified claims. If you notice any errors or have concerns about the content, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Purpose of This Site

Maneki Neko World is a dedicated multilingual resource covering all aspects of maneki neko. Our goal is to answer questions like "Which color should I choose for good financial luck?", "Which direction should it face in the entryway?", and "Which is the true birthplace โ€” Gotokuji or Imado Shrine?" โ€” not with guesswork, but with well-grounded information drawn from historical texts, folklore, and feng shui principles.

Maneki neko are no longer just a Japanese icon โ€” as the "Lucky Cat," they are beloved around the world. With that in mind, this site is available in five languages: Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean, sharing maneki neko culture with a global audience.

There is a wealth of information about maneki neko online, but much of it consists of unverified folk tales or unsupported claims. This site aims to go beyond surface-level facts by explaining the background behind each belief โ€” so that after reading, visitors can feel they truly understand the subject.
